Pallas Athena

Athena or Athene ( /əˈθiːnə/ or /əˈθiːniː/; Attic: Ἀθηνᾶ, Athēnā or Ἀθηναία, Athēnaia; Epic: Ἀθηναίη, Athēnaiē; Ionic: Ἀθήνη, Athēnē; Doric: Ἀθάνα, Athana), also referred to as Pallas Athena or Pallas Athene ( /ˈpæləs/; Παλλὰς Ἀθηνᾶ; Παλλὰς Ἀθήνη), is the goddess of warfare, civilization, wisdom, strength, strategy, crafts, justice and skill in Greek mythology. Minerva, Athena's Roman incarnation, embodies similar attributes.^[4] Athena is also a shrewd companion of heroes and the goddess of heroic endeavour. She is the virgin patron of Athens. The Athenians built the Parthenon on the Acropolis of her namesake city, Athens, in her honour (Athena Parthenos).^[4]

Why?

For some years now I have been working on a project, regrettably with slow progress due to other pressing concerns, I call “The Palladian Republic” (The Republic of Pallas Athena.) The basic idea is an encyclopedia of civilised practices that stand, as much as possible, independent of more fundamental, axiomatic commitments, such as whether one is a Traditional Catholic, Pagan or WN, etc.

The intention is to build up a consensus of opinion on what practices a civilised European man subscribes to and to build a community of such practitioners. It would cover trivial and common sense practices (we all know common sense is not that common) such as best dental hygiene practices to bigger ticket items such as Process Engineering and Total Quality Management as applied to one’s personal life. Etiquette, dress and deportment and many other subjects would be included in the encyclopedia.

Topics like self-defense and survival techniques would also be included. (The SAS Survival manual is part of my bibliography.) I see this as something like an Archeo-Futurist version of Castiglione’s The Book of the Courtier.

Needless to say, this will be a vast project. I have a broad framework and have gathered some of the requisite information but I would like to run it as an Open Source project manager, inviting contributions from experts in various fields and then integrating and publishing it in a consistent format under perhaps a GNU General Public License, version 3 (GPLv3).
